Dorothy Linder Elementary School

SPED

At Linder, our Special Education (SPED) program is dedicated to supporting and empowering students with diverse learning needs. Our curriculum aligns with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), ensuring that every student receives an inclusive and individualized education. Through a personalized approach, we strive to meet the unique needs of each student, fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth.

We also adhere to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and provisions such as Child Find, which requires schools to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities residing within their jurisdictions who need special education and related services. Additional information for families and community members is available here. Below are Child Find flyers:

In the area of Language Arts and Reading, our Special Education students will develop their reading skills, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary knowledge. With targeted instruction and interventions, we aim to enhance their ability to understand and analyze different types of texts, while also nurturing their love for reading.

Mathematics instruction focuses on building a strong foundation in numerical operations, algebraic thinking, geometry, and data analysis. Our Special Education students will receive specialized support and accommodations to help them grasp mathematical concepts and solve problems, ensuring their success in this critical subject area.

Science education for Special Education students is designed to foster curiosity and exploration. Through hands-on experiments and adaptive instruction, students will explore scientific concepts, such as matter, energy, Earth and space, and the interdependence of organisms. We aim to ignite their scientific curiosity and develop their critical thinking skills.

In Social Studies, students will dive into U.S. history, geography, economics, and government. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of historical events and their impact on society. With differentiated instruction and accommodations, our Special Education students will develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

Beyond academic outcomes, our Special Education program also focuses on fostering social-emotional skills. We aim to create a safe and supportive learning environment that nurtures self-confidence, resilience, and positive relationships. Through individualized support plans and collaboration with families and specialized professionals, we strive to meet the unique needs of each student and help them reach their fullest potential.

At the core of our Special Education program is a commitment to inclusivity, equity, and providing every student with the tools they need to succeed. Together, we work to create a learning environment that celebrates diversity, promotes growth, and prepares our Special Education students for a successful future.
